Steve Bannon released from prison just ahead of Election Day

Former Trump White House strategist Steve Bannon has been released from prison with just one week remaining before the presidential election, according to reports.
“I’m not broken, I’m empowered,” Bannon told The New York Times upon his release Tuesday.
The 70-year-old far-right-wing pundit — who also served as the chief executive of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign — was freed after serving four months behind bars for defying subpoenas from the Jan. 6 House committee back in 2022, Randilee Giamusso, a federal Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman, told NBC News.
He was convicted earlier the same year of two counts of contempt of Congress, after he refused to comply with subpoenas demanding he testify about the violent march at the Capitol, carried out by a mob of Trump supporters battling to block the certification of President Biden’s electoral win.
Bannon reported to a federal correctional institution in Danbury, Conn., on July 1, staving off jail for two years with a series of legal appeals.
“The defendant chose allegiance to Donald Trump over compliance with the law,” a Justice Department prosecutor told jurors during his trial.
Bannon hosts a podcast called “Bannon’s War Room“; he was expected to return to his podcast role Tuesday.
“Steve Bannon is a Free Man,” his War Room co-host Natalie Winters posted on X.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), a frequent guest on the podcast, similarly celebrated his release, writing, “Let’s win this election and defeat these communists!!”
Prominent election conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell, meanwhile, offered a deal on his MyPillow products to mark the occasion —  which includes free pillows, plus shipping and handling, with the appropriate discount code.
